What do we do?
Our mission is to connect with the local community through free tutoring services and to welcome whomever we meet into our church. We began in 2020 during the COVID shutdowns, providing free tutoring services for students who struggle with their online learning. Although shutdowns are mostly over, students still have gaps in their education that we can fill in. Even if students don’t struggle, we would love to help out with free tutoring and educational services.
Who are we?
We are volunteers from within and outside of West Covina Christian Church. Some of us are retired teachers, retired professionals, current teachers, students, grandmothers, grandfathers, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters. We are all passionate about lifting up our community through education and positive motivation. We believe and we have seen that if a student enjoys to learn and believes that they can succeed, then they undoubtedly will.
Benefits for our volunteers
We are a strictly no-cost, no-pay volunteer organization. However, we would like to offer benefits to individuals who volunteer with us.
We are currently offering:
Class extra credit for students who are in our participating network. Our network will continuously grow.
Professional and ministry-related letters of recommendation and/or references for employment, university and graduate school entrances.
We are currently developing an internship network, in which we directly place you with an internship of your choice after your service with us.
Examples of internship opportunities are: business, pharmacy, medical doctor, dentistry, physical therapy, etc...
This is in developement and should be available in 2023. Previous volunteers will be eligible, so if you serve with us now, you will be eligible when the internship network is opened.
